Nippon Oil Corp. will build a new liquefied natural gas receiving terminal at Hachinohe, located in the country's northern prefecture of Aomori. Construction of the USD 548.4 million terminal is expected to begin in 2011 and be completed in 2014-15. Nippon Oil plans to utilize the terminal to receive LNG from Indonesia and Malaysia for onward supply to its customers in the Tohoku region in NE Japan. The new terminal will have a 160,000-kiloliter tank. In association with Chugoku Electric Power Co., Nippon Oil operates a 160,000-kiloliter tank in the Mizushima complex at Kurashiki in the Okayama prefecture. There are plans to build another facility of the same capacity in the complex. The company has also begun preliminary studies in association with Hokkaido Gas Co. Ltd for the construction of an LNG terminal at Kushiro. Feed for this satellite terminal will come from the Ishikari or Hachinohe terminals. Hokkaido Gas is constructing the Ishikari terminal.
